Clean Air Advice for Work

Conserve energy:

  • Turn off lights in areas that are not being used.
  • Pull down window shades before leaving the office to minimize heat/cold transfer.
  • Utilize the energy saving mode on your computer and other office equipment.
  • Purchase Energy Star products or other energy efficient appliances, electronics and lighting.

Choose Commute Alternatives:

  • Ask your employer about alternatives to drivng to work alone.
  • Work a flex schedule.
  • Telecommute one day a week.
  • If you are an employer, implement a rideshare program for your employees.
  • Out of Office Meetings? Share a Ride !If you attend meetings outside the office, try carpooling with co-workers or other people attending those meetings. It will save you money on gas, reduce traffic congestion and help clear the air.
  • Pack a Lunch! Shorter trips actually create the most pollution. Bring your lunch to work, that way you can avoid making the extra mid day trip home or to a restaurant, saving gas, time and air quality.
  • Walk to lunch. Your car emits the most pollution during short trips.

Recycle:

  • Got old electronic and computer equipment? Many businesses replace computers and other electronic items regularly. Many of the components in electronics are recyclable. Some computers can even be rebuilt and donated to schools.

Plan Ahead:

  • Keep your fleet vehicles well maintained.
  • Take advantage of tax options - buy alternative fueled vehicles.
  • Purchase fuel efficient vehicles.

Pollution Prevention:

  • Buy less toxic or non-toxic materials.
  • Wait to paint on low pollution days.
  • Keep all solvents and paints in air tight containers.
  • Adopt pollution prevention methods. They will not only prevent air pollution but will also result in savings for your company.
